Wauchope Vets Weekly update 28.09

Wauchope Men’s Veteran Golfers

It is with regret I inform you David Pilley’s wife Dee passed away last night in Wauchope Palliative Care. David is our past Secretary.
David, the Wauchope Vets are  thinking of you at this time of your loss. I will pass on details as they come to me.

Tuesday 30th September is the Wauchope Mens Veterans Foursomes Championships. If you are paired, it is important to think of your partner if thinking about pulling out. Not only does one person pulling out of a foursome leave one player with no competition, but the other players in the foursome with nobody to mark their card. At present there are 9 spots available, 8 of those are 2 groups of 4 and a single spot. For those member who are not familiar with the Foursome format the following should help

“Definition: Foursomes is a competition format in which a team is comprised of two players, and those two golfers alternate hitting the same ball (which is why Foursomes is also very commonly called "alternate shot").

The first player tees off, the second player hits the second shot, the first player hits the third shot, and so on until the ball is holed. Players alternate hitting tee shots so that the same player doesn't hit every drive. ie. player 1 will tee off on holes 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15,17, player 2 will tee off on holes 2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,”

The booking sheet for the Bill Medley Shield at South West Rocks is on the Vets Board at the club or Tuesdays on the front table, it would be good to get a good  attendance to that game. If you would like me to place your name on the list, please return email.

Weekly update 21.09

Wauchope Men’s Veteran Golfers

Next Tuesday  23rd September the event is a Single Stroke, Bi-Monthly Medal, as usual in conjunction is Putting Competition sponsored by Al Muller and Bill Wagner, thank you very much. Also is Round 5 of the Eclectic, which is sponsored by Dennis Hughes and John Uncle, thank you. Looking at the booking sheet, there are 8 spots available if you are looking for a game. Also when you are booking in for Tuesday 6th October, you will notice it is an 8:30am Shotgun start, with visitors from Kew Golf Club booked in. The event is a Single Stableford contesting for Wal Sneddon Shield.
Tuesday  30th September is the Foursome Championships (conditions apply, see Club Championships in the Fixture Book)

Last Wednesday the Bill Medley Shield Round was at Frederickton Golf Club, or as it is known in some circles “Royal Fredo”. It was my first visit and what a pleasant surprise it was. The course looked a picture and played similar. The greens must rate with the best in the district. Wauchope caught up 8 points on Port Macquarie and now need 22 points in the last round at South West Rocks in October to topple Port. The rundown of scores after Frederickton is Port Macquarie  1404 points, Wauchope 1383 points, Kew 1358 points, South West Rocks 1356 points, Frederickton 1337 points, Kempsey 1314 points, Crescent Head Unsure of the exact count).
Frederickton and South West Rocks topped the day with 252 points each. It is close, so we need as many players as possible to nominate to go to South West Rocks and give Dennis a wide range to select the team from. I may have confused people with the date for SWR, it is Friday 24th October, put that date in your diary, and come up and play at SWR and see if we can win the Bill Medley Shield. Congratulations to Dennis Hughes on the good job he did in selecting the team for Fredo, it is not an easy task.
Individual results involving our players, John Baker had 43 points and won the day on a countback from a Port player, Bruce Amey 40 points,  Ross Bird 39 points (now you see why I liked it), Daryl Morrow and Ralph Newall 38 points, the ball rundown to 37 points. Ralph Newall won the Nearest the pin on the 7th Hole.
Dates to remember coming up:
Tuesday 30th September  Veteran Men’s Foursomes Championships
Tuesday 7th October, Wal Sneddon Shield at Wauchope
Friday 24th October, Bill Medley Shield at South West Rocks
Friday 21st November  Bus Trip to Nambucca Island Golf Course

Sorry, I forgot to get the Thursday results when I played on Saturday.

Good golfing!

Ross Bird

Wauchope Men's Veterans Golf Club Weekly Update 14th Sept. 2014

Next Tuesday 16/9 is a Single Stableford sponsored by Fredo’s Meat. Inconjunction, will be the Lefties versus Righties Competition for the Shield. The teams will be selected prior to the start of play on Tuesday and will be displayed on the Whiteboard in the club. Gavin Price is the Selector for the Lefties and I will select the Righties Team. Looking at the start sheet on the computer, there are no spots available at the moment for Tuesday, if for some reason your name is still there and you know you are not playing, please take it off to allow others to play.

Last Tuesday the AGM was held, there was a very good attendance. (I suppose having the BBQ after the  AGM had nothing to do with the attendance). The Committee for 2014-15 is President Peter Abell, Vice President Rod Millican, Secretary John Jokantas, Treasurer Quenton Henry, Captain Ross Bird, Vice Captain Dennis Hughes, Director, Week of Golf John Uncle,Sponsor Manager Graham Haggerty, Card Management Arthur Hoare and Kevin Lowndes, Publicity Manager Graham Ferguson, Welfare Mal Potter, General Committee John Hough. Stepping down this year is David Pilley from the Secretary role and Don Waugh from the Welfare Role. Thank you very much to both David and Don for all the hours and work you have exerted for the Wauchope Mens Veteran Golfers, thank you. Welcome to the new members of the team.

Also at the meeting there was a motion put to change the ball rundown from grades to across the field, the motion was tabled and spoken to by Dennis Hughes, Ross Bird spoke against the motion, Ron Dixon spoke for the motion. There was a vote of hands and the motion was carried. From next Tuesday the Ball rundown will be across the field rather than in grades, so the result sheet will look a little different.

The Bill Medley Shield round will be held at Frederickton next Wednesday 17th, Wauchope have 16 starters, of which Dennis Hughes will be selecting a team. I have the Hit-off times, I will email to those people on email, it is also on display in the Club. Good luck to all the players.
