Wauchope Men's Vets weekly update 17.01

Wauchope Men’s Veteran Golfers

Next Tuesday 19th January is the first Bi-Monthly Medal for the year, so that means a Single Stroke event, plus Putting Competition sponsored by Al Muller and Bill Wagner and Eclectic Round 2 sponsored by Dennis Hughes and John Uncle. Looking at the timesheet there is only one vacancy.

Could I mention to members the new arrangement with the Club we no longer receive a subsidy from the Club, but we now receive $1 extra per player from the Green Fees. This can be advantageous to us, on the other hand, detrimental, if numbers are up and managed we will do better, if days are rained out or carts not allowed or members leave it to the last minute to pull out or don’t pull out at all, leaving no option for  other players to take their place we will lose money. An example is over 50 week/games 5 players leave pulling out until the last minute or not pulling out it will cost at least $250.00 over the year in subsidies. Please think of the Club, when you are not able to play but your name is still there, you could be giving someone else a chance to play and for our Club to prosper.

The holiday period is over, the emails are streaming in and events happening.

Crescent Head Bill Medley Shield is on Tuesday 16th February, I have a list of about 17 players for that day, normally restricted to 10 players per Club, I have agreement with Crescent Head they will try to accommodate us, carts maybe an issue as they only have 6 Hire Carts (if you are wanting a cart ring CHCC on 6566 0268) tell them if you would like to play early as they are able to move a few players early. Please if you are able to take your own cart up, please do. List will be on the front table on Tuesday.

I have received the invitation from Kew Country Club for their Bill Medley event,

KEW COUNTRY CLUB VETERAN GOLFERS
INVITE YOU TO ENTER HERE,
FOR THE BILL MEDLEY SHIELD, TO BE HELD AT KEW COUNTRY CLUB
ON FRIDAY 4TH MARCH 2016
8.30 AM SHOTGUN START, $15 PER HEAD
this sheet is also available on the front table

I have sent an invitation to Forster/Tuncurry Men’s Vets for their visit to Wauchope on Friday 18th March
Wauchope Men's Veterans Golf Club Invite

Friday 18th March 2016,    9:00am Shotgun Start
Tea, Coffee and Biscuits available on arrival.
Green Fees $20,  Lunch available at Bistro, meals from $8
Entries close no later than Thursday 3rd March 2016
Carts must be booked through the Pro Shop on  6585 3885
Please put this date in your diary, it is a game at home which is counted in the Travellers Trophy

Harrington Waters Vets visit us on Tuesday 23rd February this is a 8:00am Shotgun Start contesting the first leg of the Harri-Hope Shield which we hold at present.

There was talk in the Club last Tuesday about Bonville events being played by Mid Nth Coast Vets, while I encourage Vets to travel and experience other courses, I am also mindful the Bonville events are on Tuesdays, hence I don’t like promoting events which will take players away from our competition (Crescent Head exempted). Here is the message I received for Mid Nth Coast Vets’ John Plummer.
“Bonville’s dates are 16 February, 5 April, 14 June, and, 9 August.
Of course you and your Vets are welcome.  However, as Bonville give us eighty spots I must look after our members first.  Usually we have spots available though.  So give me your names and Golf Link numbers early and, hopefully, I can confirm your bookings about the week before game days.   The cost is about $60.00 which includes a cart.   This rate is about half price and the best deal in town.”
I will add the first date coincides with Crescent Head, so would discourage visits on that day. It is not a shotgun start at Bonville so the suitability of taking a bus is reduced.

Results of Thursday 14th January Vets 9 Hole Single Stableford  event. 33 players (very hot!!!!)

Wauchope Men's Vets weekly update 06.12

Wauchope Men’s Veteran Golfers

Next Tuesday 8th December is Hams or Hamper Day, if you have played over 60% of available games in 2015, you should already have or a proxy has your Ham Ticket, you will receive Half a Ham. The event on Tuesday is a Best 2 of 4 Stableford with an 8:00am shot gun Start. I have purposely made it a Best 2 of 4 Stableford event to enable faster play. YOU ARE ONLY GOING TO BE FASTER BY  PICKING  YOUR BALL UP IF YOU CANNOT BETTER THE OTHER SCORES IN YOUR TEAM. Lunch is scheduled for 12:30pm so we need a 12:30pm finish, that is a round of 4 hours 30 minutes which should be quite easy, keep your group moving.

Order for the day will be, all the action will be in the Auditorium downstairs, there is no reason to go upstairs, when you come in and submit your card, you will be given Beer Tickets for your group, lunch should be ready or close to ready, lunch will be before the Presentation, after presentation the Ham raffle will be drawn and then the distribution of Hams, I will call names from the start sheet and those people called out should go and collect their Ham. We have 140 Hams ($5000 worth) to distribute so it needs to be done in an orderly fashion. Thank you to all the Committee and non Committee members helping out on this special day, Thank you.

TIMESHEETS:- Dennis Hughes sent this message yesterday, I will not rewrite it just copy it to you.
“Names for 22nd Dec are already in and computer will open for Tablet and Internet at 6am on Tuesday for 22nd
Note that the computer will open on 15th December for 5th Jan 2016. (3 Weeks ahead) (No game on 29th Dec)
It will open on 22nd December for 12th January 2016 (3 weeks ahead)
This will also apply to the Thursday games
Opens 17th Dec for 7th Jan and opens 24th Dec for 14th Jan..Yes there is a game on 24th December..(Not in the book)”

He also asked me to mention “On another note there have been people in carts leaving the path to the left of 11th green (some of them Vets) and driving up past the sand trap and also across the front of the 11th green when leaving the 12th tee. They have bent the stakes aside and also I noticed today that one of the star pegs is actually recently broken. This practice is to cease immediately. To access 12th tee drive to the right of the dam and up through the trees to the tee then walk to 11th green. Return the same way.”

Out of concern, I wrote a letter to Caleb Rose, General Manager, and also to the Board regarding the meals served to the Vets on Tuesdays. I pointed out the lack of variety and sometimes the meals run out early. Caleb emailed me this message “Can you please draw to your member’s attention the fact that our new menu also offers a number of choices for under $10 with your member’s discount, as well as open toasted sandwiches for $6.30.  In part this menu is intended to replace the $7 meals which are at best a break even proposition for the club and not sustainable for the long term, particularly if we continue to offer multiple choices as this generates significant wastage and therefore further cost.”  The fact the new menu is intended to replace the Bain-Marie meals, makes sense. I suggested that maybe the meal price needs to be increased from $7 to $9 with the proviso the meals are value for money and there is variety, Caleb replied “The suggestion of raising the cost to $9 would improve the club’s margin on the meals and we will give this due consideration, however it would be preferable to promote the new menu choices along with only one or two “wet dish” specials each week.  I’d be very happy to talk through this with you and also to speak at your presentation about the changes if that would be useful?” I have included the lunch Menu below, when you apply your 10% discount to these meals, I feel you will be getting value for money. These meals will need to be ordered and they will be delivered to your table. I have also attached the full menu, if you a planning a more formal Lunch or Dinner.  I am happy with the reply, members now have a choice, if not fussed with the “wet dishes” they have the option to order other meals that are only marginally dearer, but should satisfy the appetite.
