Wauchope Men's Vets weekly update 26.07

Wauchope Men’s Veteran Golfers

Next Tuesday 28th July is a Single Stableford event, it is a 8:30am Shotgun Start as we host Harrington Men’s Vets for the 1st leg of the Harri-Hope Shield. Again we would like all players to be early to avoid congestion in the Pro Shop, you are able to have a Tea/Coffee, Biscuits while waiting to hit off, or the more serious golfers a little putting practice. Looking at the Booking sheet there are 6 spots available 2x1spot, 1x4 group, so get in if you are looking for a game.

On a sad note Peter Abell’s,  wife, Dawn’s  mother passed away in Victoria on Saturday morning, She was 101 years old, nearly 102. Peter said she had been suffering for a number of years. Our thoughts are with you, Dawn and Peter.

On a brighter note, we had a mixed bag last week. Last Tuesday we contested the 2nd leg of the Neil Grant Memorial Shield with Wingham Men’s Vets. Wauchope started out with a deficit of 56 points to Wingham. We didn’t quite make that number up by points, so Wingham is awarded the Neil Grant Memorial Shield. Congratulations, Wingham Vets!!!!!. We will be after it next year.

The other part of the mixed bag is Wauchope had a good day at Kempsey on Friday for the Bill Medley Shield. Although the day didn’t look all that good and there was a little bit of rain, our players turned up ready to play golf. We have hit the lead of the Bill Medley Shield as you will see with the results below.

As you can see Wauchope are  8 points in front of Port Macquarie and 13 shots in front of Fredo, it is very close, the next 2 rounds will be very telling, as they are home games for Port and Fredo. Which means we need to have a good number of players to select from. Congratulations Dennis, for selecting the team, uncharacteristic of him, he was demanding high 5s for his team selection, I reminded him, of who selected the selector! Players who had good scores on the day were John Jokantas 40 points, Alan Brooke 40 points, Bruce Amey 36 points Peter Kime 35 points, Kerry Galloway 35 points, the ball rundown went to 32 points with Darryl Morrow, Fred Ertl, Bob Baker, getting a ball. John Jokantas won the Overall event, Alan Brooke winning B Grade and Peter Kime 3rd in B Grade. Congratulations to all!!!!!

Talking of the Bill Medley Shield, next game is at Port Macquarie on Monday 10th August, at present I have 30 names on the sheet, nominations close on Tuesday 28th July, so if you want to play get your name down either on the sheet Tuesday or by emailing me. Please Book your own carts through the Pro Shop 65820784.

The Bus trip to Tuncurry is on Monday 3rd August, It is a 9:00am Shotgun start. There are 26 starters, I will send the names away this afternoon. There are 17 on the bus counting Alan Brooke the driver. The bus is leaving Emerald Downs at 6:30am, Blackbutt Rd 6:45am, Donut 7:00am Kew Pub 7:15am. It looks like a good day of golf. I will send an email to those on the Bus to confirm pick up points.

There are no more trips for a while, but we still have the deferred game at Harrington, I hope to negotiate a date for next Tuesday and of course Fredo on Wednesday  16th September for the Bill Medley Shield

Results of Thursday’s Vets 9 Hole Stableford, there were 40 players
Winners: Lester Thurgate 23 points, Neil Jeffcott 22 points, Randal Langham 20 points c/b

It is with regret I attach a letter from Lester Thurgate, Acting President, regarding the resignation of Bob Weston. As far as I am concerned Bob has always come to the party with requests from me on behalf of the Men’s Vets, thank you, Bob. Bob will be here for another couple of months before he departs for greener pastures.

That’s about it for this week

Good Golfing

Ross
