Wauchope Men's Vets weekly update 26.07

Wauchope Men’s Veteran Golfers

Next Tuesday 28th July is a Single Stableford event, it is a 8:30am Shotgun Start as we host Harrington Men’s Vets for the 1st leg of the Harri-Hope Shield. Again we would like all players to be early to avoid congestion in the Pro Shop, you are able to have a Tea/Coffee, Biscuits while waiting to hit off, or the more serious golfers a little putting practice. Looking at the Booking sheet there are 6 spots available 2x1spot, 1x4 group, so get in if you are looking for a game.

On a sad note Peter Abell’s,  wife, Dawn’s  mother passed away in Victoria on Saturday morning, She was 101 years old, nearly 102. Peter said she had been suffering for a number of years. Our thoughts are with you, Dawn and Peter.

On a brighter note, we had a mixed bag last week. Last Tuesday we contested the 2nd leg of the Neil Grant Memorial Shield with Wingham Men’s Vets. Wauchope started out with a deficit of 56 points to Wingham. We didn’t quite make that number up by points, so Wingham is awarded the Neil Grant Memorial Shield. Congratulations, Wingham Vets!!!!!. We will be after it next year.

The other part of the mixed bag is Wauchope had a good day at Kempsey on Friday for the Bill Medley Shield. Although the day didn’t look all that good and there was a little bit of rain, our players turned up ready to play golf. We have hit the lead of the Bill Medley Shield as you will see with the results below.

As you can see Wauchope are  8 points in front of Port Macquarie and 13 shots in front of Fredo, it is very close, the next 2 rounds will be very telling, as they are home games for Port and Fredo. Which means we need to have a good number of players to select from. Congratulations Dennis, for selecting the team, uncharacteristic of him, he was demanding high 5s for his team selection, I reminded him, of who selected the selector! Players who had good scores on the day were John Jokantas 40 points, Alan Brooke 40 points, Bruce Amey 36 points Peter Kime 35 points, Kerry Galloway 35 points, the ball rundown went to 32 points with Darryl Morrow, Fred Ertl, Bob Baker, getting a ball. John Jokantas won the Overall event, Alan Brooke winning B Grade and Peter Kime 3rd in B Grade. Congratulations to all!!!!!

Talking of the Bill Medley Shield, next game is at Port Macquarie on Monday 10th August, at present I have 30 names on the sheet, nominations close on Tuesday 28th July, so if you want to play get your name down either on the sheet Tuesday or by emailing me. Please Book your own carts through the Pro Shop 65820784.

The Bus trip to Tuncurry is on Monday 3rd August, It is a 9:00am Shotgun start. There are 26 starters, I will send the names away this afternoon. There are 17 on the bus counting Alan Brooke the driver. The bus is leaving Emerald Downs at 6:30am, Blackbutt Rd 6:45am, Donut 7:00am Kew Pub 7:15am. It looks like a good day of golf. I will send an email to those on the Bus to confirm pick up points.

There are no more trips for a while, but we still have the deferred game at Harrington, I hope to negotiate a date for next Tuesday and of course Fredo on Wednesday  16th September for the Bill Medley Shield

8:30am Shotgun Start. Harrington Vets are visiting Wauchope for the Harri-Hope Shield

Wauchope Men's Vets weekly update 19.07

Wauchope Men’s Veteran Golfers

Next Tuesday 21st July is a Single Stableford, 8:30am Shotgun start, Wingham Vets are visiting for the Neil Grant Memorial Shield which will be presented to the winning team. It is based on the top 10 scores from each team, at present Wingham lead with 374 points, Wauchope 319 points. We have to make up 56 points to beat Wingham, that is 5.6 shots per player in the top 10.

Looking at the start sheet for Tuesday 21st there are 2 spots available, so get in early. Tea and coffee will be available before we start so be early and book in so we don’t crowd the Pro Shop too much.

Good luck, Wauchope.

On Friday 24th July the Bill Medley Shield event will be held at Kempsey, at present we have 21 players going up. I have a vacancy in a Hire Cart with Bruce Amey, I would like to fill that vacancy, so if you have nothing to do next Friday email me quickly and you can share that cart. The spot has become available because John Brent is not well at this time and is unable to play.

Tuesday 28th July is again a shotgun start with Harrington Vets visiting us on that occasion. There are about 7 vacancies on the Start sheet for that game now Harrington names have been added. This visit is the 1st leg of the Harri-hope Shield, this game being postponed from February this year, the return visit to Harrington has also been postponed all because of the weather, so hopefully we will get a start this time.

Monday 3rd August is the Bus trip to Tuncurry, we have about 25 starters, there is a 22 seater bus, there are still vacancies on the bus as about 7 people are travelling by car. Tuncurry sent me an email saying they have purchased a Shield to be contested each year with Wauchope. It is call the Curry-Hope Shield, it is yet to be determined if the results from Tuncurry visit on Friday 20th March will contribute to this. The sheet will be available on Tuesday, then the names will have to be submitted.

Port Macquarie Bill Medley is Monday 3rd August, we really need a strong team for this visit, there are only 14 names down at present, It is a 9:00am Shotgun start, Cost is $20 including gourmet hamburger or sandwich. Nominations will close on 28th July. Sheet will be on the front table on Tuesday.

A couple of things we noted last week, there were 12 people dropped out of the field after 7:00am on Tuesday. In stroke events if you fail to score on one hole, unless you are ill or injured, keep playing and scoring and submit that card to Dennis who will give you a score for that hole so it can be handicapped. If you pull out for any reason, sign and leave your card on the Vets table, write on your card the reason you have pulled out, otherwise your handicap history on Golflink has a Black mark against it, if you have 4 black marks your handicap is suspended. When paying your entry fees at the Pro Shop it seems everybody is getting  a $50 note from under the bed that day, if possible present a $20, you would realise it doesn’t take long for all the change to be used. I will have something to say about slow play next week, in the meantime just keep up with the group in front and there will not be a problem, except of course if that group is slow.

Results from Thursday 16th July 9 Hole Vets Stableford
There 37 players.
Winners: Syd Stewart 23 points, David Martin 21 points, Doug Connell 20 points
NTP: Ian Lavender 1.26m
Balls to 17 c/b
19 points: Bob Baker, Norm Marchant, Charlie Langham
18 points: Ray Knapp, Dennis Hughes, Colin Hassal, David Robinson, Lester Thurgate
17 points: Randal Langham, Alan Brooke, Neil Jeffcott

That’s about it for this week!

Good golfing
