Wauchope Men's Vets weekly update 29.11

Wauchope Men’s Veteran Golfers

Next Tuesday 1st December is a Single Stableford event sponsored by our good supporter Hastings Fresh Meats, Lake Rd., Port Macquarie. Looking at the timesheet there are 9 spots vacant, the weather looks as though it will be alright, why don’t you get your name down.

Please Note::: Last week I stated the Shotgun start for Hams Day (8th Dec.) was 8:30am, I made a mistake it is 8:00am shotgun start. On a lighter note for the day, if you are unable to attend and are receiving a Ham please ensure you have a proxy, who will present your ticket and take your ham otherwise it might get raffled, (you know what PA is like). Also on Hams day we will present the prizes for the 2015 Eclectic and the 2015 Travellers

Peter Abell asked me to thank all the people who bought raffle tickets last week for their willingness to contribute to our club. He said he will not be selling them on Tuesday and it will be drawn on Hams Day 8th December.

Friday saw players heading south to Harrington and north to South West Rocks. I asked Geoff Hosking for a report on what happened at SWR Zone 12 Championship, he reported it was a good day and well organised by the SWR Vets. He said Mick Ashley had an 83 Bob Maggs had 88  and Geoff had a 88, the course played very tough. But for one player it must have been very easy he had 82 gross, off 23 for a nett 59. He also suggested we should promote it more next year and send more players up to SWR. Thanks Geoff for that report!!!

The players who headed south played Harrington Waters, there were 20 players, we were greeted with Tea/Coffee and Carrot Cake prior to a  8:30am shotgun start. Remembering this is the 2nd round of the Harri-Hope Shield, so there was a lot at stake. The course and particularly the fairways are in magnificent condition, the couch grass sitting the ball up nicely, if you were on the fairway and not in the water or OB. As we went passed the clubhouse we were given a sausage sandwich and then a BBQ lunch  of a rissole and sausage with plenty of fresh salad, all for $25, good value. The Shield scores at the start of day was Wauchope 376, Harrington 330, scored by the best 10 scores from each side. On Friday Wauchope scored 352 for a total of 728, Harrington scored 383 for a total of 713. The Shield headed north to Wauchope for 2015. Top scorers in our team were John Jokantas 40 points, Ross Bird 39 points, Allan Lynch 38 points, Tony Zanon 37 points, Rod Millican 35 points, Doug Connell 34 points, Norm Marchant 34 points, Graham Ferguson 33 points. It was a good day, thank you Harrington Waters Vets and the women who served the drinks and served lunch. Harrington will be visiting us on Tuesday February 23rd 2016.

Derek Bentley is shifting to Sydney very soon, Derek hasn’t played for some time but he comes out on Tuesdays and drives Ron Dixon around the course in Ron’s cart. A few of the boys have organised a farewell lunch for Derek on Wednesday 2nd December at Lake Cathie Tavern, if you are interested in attending see Norm Marchant or Keith Dickinson.

In Preparation for next year’s fixture book, I will be displaying all the Men’s Vets Telephone numbers, which will be included in a fixtures book. Would you check them, please. If they are correct tick them, if not correct, amend them, if you do not want your number in the book place a line through it. It will be available on Tuesday 1st and Hams Day.
