Wauchope Men's Vets weekly update 22.02

Wauchope Men’s Veteran Golfers

Next Tuesday 24th February is a Single Stableford, 8:30am Shotgun Start. I apologise for 8:04 on the computer timesheet, but it is definitely 8:30am. There are 30 Vets from Harrington visiting us for the 1st Round of the Harri-Hope Shield. Looking at the timesheet there is 1 position available. Could I suggest players arrive early have a cuppa, organise your group and get to the Tee before 8:30. Harrington players will need some help finding their allocated tee, so please help them. Also know which Tee you are hitting off before paying at the Pro Shop, we will have a list outside the Pro Shop to help you.

The Club received an email last Tuesday night from a member of Wauchope Men’s Golf Club (not a Vet) and I will quote. “I played the back nine after work and was disgusted with the state of the greens. The people who played the competition that took place that day obviously felt they were beyond having to repair their divots. On Holes 15, 16, 17 and 18 there would be no fewer than 80 divots not repaired. The Greenkeepers and Ground Staff do such a great job to keep the course looking and playing fantastic even in trying conditions, just for these people to let us all down. If doing something as repairing a divot is too hard then maybe it is time to stop playing.”

While it is disappointing that anybody should write a letter about us, it is also disappointing if they were a quarter correct, it is not a good situation. Please be aware the greens are very soft at the present, you may have made a divot without realising it. Also if you see an unrepaired divot please fix it.

On a brighter note, 15 players travelled to Crescent Head last Tuesday to contest the 1st Round of the Bill Medley Shield. Les Wren was the star of the day winning with 43 points, John Baker had 40 points (5th), Doug Connell 39 points (6th) with Darryl Morrow and myself also winning a ball. Les was in the team, but unfortunately the other ball winners were not. The present Bill Medley Points table is: Frederickton 253 points, SW Rocks 236 points, Port Macquarie 230 points, Wauchope 223 points, Crescent Head 223 points, Kew 213 points, Kempsey 204 points. We are still very much in the competition, the next couple of rounds will tell. I have sent 30 names to participate in Kew’s Bill Medley Shield round on Friday 6th March. Our turn comes on Friday 17th April with an 8:30am Shotgun start.

The players who played Crescent Head are in the Travellers Competition the best average of 9 of the 13 games either away from Wauchope or on another day other than Tuesday at Wauchope. There is $60 first prize and $40 second prize. These are the 13 games
