Wauchope Vets-No Carts 24.02.15

Wauchope Vets-No Carts 24.02.15

Wauchope Men’s Veteran Golfers

In consultation with Clark and he spoke with Garry Foster the decision is “No Carts” tomorrow Tuesday 24/02. Yesterday water was overflowing the dam on the 4th, they have  had more rain since.

Clark asked for those who will not be playing because of NO Carts to pull out of the competition before 3:00pm this afternoon, either by deleting on the computer or ringing Neil at the Pro Shop, this will allow them to print cards this afternoon for walkers on Tuesday. It is still an 8:30am shotgun start.

Harrington Vets have been informed and their game has been postponed to another date to be announced.

The decision is a good one given the amount of carts we would have on the course tomorrow

Wauchope Men's Vets weekly update 22.02

Wauchope Men’s Veteran Golfers

Next Tuesday 24th February is a Single Stableford, 8:30am Shotgun Start. I apologise for 8:04 on the computer timesheet, but it is definitely 8:30am. There are 30 Vets from Harrington visiting us for the 1st Round of the Harri-Hope Shield. Looking at the timesheet there is 1 position available. Could I suggest players arrive early have a cuppa, organise your group and get to the Tee before 8:30. Harrington players will need some help finding their allocated tee, so please help them. Also know which Tee you are hitting off before paying at the Pro Shop, we will have a list outside the Pro Shop to help you.

The Club received an email last Tuesday night from a member of Wauchope Men’s Golf Club (not a Vet) and I will quote. “I played the back nine after work and was disgusted with the state of the greens. The people who played the competition that took place that day obviously felt they were beyond having to repair their divots. On Holes 15, 16, 17 and 18 there would be no fewer than 80 divots not repaired. The Greenkeepers and Ground Staff do such a great job to keep the course looking and playing fantastic even in trying conditions, just for these people to let us all down. If doing something as repairing a divot is too hard then maybe it is time to stop playing.”

While it is disappointing that anybody should write a letter about us, it is also disappointing if they were a quarter correct, it is not a good situation. Please be aware the greens are very soft at the present, you may have made a divot without realising it. Also if you see an unrepaired divot please fix it.

On a brighter note, 15 players travelled to Crescent Head last Tuesday to contest the 1st Round of the Bill Medley Shield. Les Wren was the star of the day winning with 43 points, John Baker had 40 points (5th), Doug Connell 39 points (6th) with Darryl Morrow and myself also winning a ball. Les was in the team, but unfortunately the other ball winners were not. The present Bill Medley Points table is: Frederickton 253 points, SW Rocks 236 points, Port Macquarie 230 points, Wauchope 223 points, Crescent Head 223 points, Kew 213 points, Kempsey 204 points. We are still very much in the competition, the next couple of rounds will tell. I have sent 30 names to participate in Kew’s Bill Medley Shield round on Friday 6th March. Our turn comes on Friday 17th April with an 8:30am Shotgun start.

The players who played Crescent Head are in the Travellers Competition the best average of 9 of the 13 games either away from Wauchope or on another day other than Tuesday at Wauchope. There is $60 first prize and $40 second prize. These are the 13 games

Wauchope Men's Vets weekly update 08.02

Wauchope Men’s Veteran Golfers

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ***  As from and including next Tuesday 10th February, the Electronic Timesheets on your computer will open at 6:45am not 7:00am. The Tablets in the Club will open at 6:30am. The 7:00am opening was too close to our 7:30am start, so hopefully this will make it easier.
Also next Tuesday when you are booking for 24th February you will find it is an 8:30am Shotgun start as we have about 24 players from Harrington Vets visiting us, to contest the first leg of the Harri Hope Shield. There should still be 144 spots for you to book in, if Player 1 and Player 2 are in the group with you, they are Harrington players.

Next Tuesday 10th February is a Single Stableford event. There are 3 vacancies on the timesheet, all singles so get in quick if you are looking for a game. Last week I requested reasons why three members didn’t front when their name was still on the timesheet. The reason I did this is to have members held responsible for timesheet entries. Two of the people I believe to be away, maybe their mates said they would be responsible, but just left them on. There were 9 players waiting for a game on Monday afternoon, we accommodated 6 of those. Please take your name off or if responsible for others take their name off as soon as possible, there are people waiting to get a game on Tuesdays.

I have despatched 14 players names off to Crescent Head for the Bill Medley Shield on Tuesday 17th February. I did mention when sending them that  most our players would go early if they have vacancies in the 7:30 to 8:30am group, but a number of us will have to stay in the 11:30 to 12:30 group. If you are interested in playing, let me know and I will try to get you in. I should get the draw on Friday 13th, I will inform those players with hit-off times.

I have received a flyer from Kew Vets asking for nominations for their Bill Medley Shield event on Friday 6th March. It is on the Noticeboard in the Club but will be on the front table on Tuesday, I placed the only copy I had on the board, if my memory serves me, it is $15 per head, 2 Tee start, Lunch available from the Bistro. I hope to get up to 30 players or more for this event.

Friday 6th March is Wauchope Mens Golf Club President’s launch of the 2015 Season  and Fixture Book. It is in the form of a Cocktail Party at Wauchope C.C, the cost is $20 per head. I will tell you more, as it gets closer. Fixture Books will be launched and distributed at this function.

I knew I forgot something on Saturday as I left the Club, it was the Thursday results. Sorry!

If you are having trouble logging into the Club’s Computer to book in or view results and are just stepping into the electronic age, let me know, I will try to help you. I cannot help if your computer malfunctions. Let me know, we will work through it.

Future events to the end of March are:

Tuesday 10th Feb. Single Stableford
Tuesday 17th Feb. 4BBB Stableford at Wauchope, Bill Medley Shield at Crescent Head
Tuesday 24th Feb. Single Stableford 8:30am Shotgun Start visit from Harrington Vets for the 1st leg of the Harri-Hope Shield

Weekly update 01.02

Wauchope Men’s Veteran Golfers

Next Tuesday  3rd February is a Single Stableford sponsored by Fredo’s Meats. There is only one vacancy, if you are looking for a game keep watching the sheet tomorrow, there is usually a couple of dropouts. If you know someone who is on the sheet and not playing, will you remind them to take their name off, allowing the vacancy to be filled. Fredo’s were sponsors for last week, there were only 19 players so it was a ball comp. (Result Sheet attached) Fredo’s will be sponsors this week

What a week it was, Tuesday the Dam at the 4th was overflowing, Tee up through the Green, Bunkers GUR, No Carts allowed. Thursday was Preferred lie through the Green and No Carts allowed. Saturday was Preferred lie through the Green, Carts allowed. I played on Saturday (not very well), I was surprised how the course had recovered in such a short time. I can’t remember going through any areas where it brought up water, the fairways don’t have any run but that is to be expected. I made comment about the job the Greenkeepers do, let me applaud them for the amount of work they performed to get our course in suitable condition. If we don’t have any significant rain between now and Tuesday the course will be in good condition.

I will be issuing Membership Cards on Tuesday, I want to catch as many members as possible.

The Nomination Form for Crescent Head arrived this week, there is a copy on the Noticeboard, but will be on the front table on Tuesday. Details are: Bill Medley Shield,

Tuesday 17th February, Game Fee $15, Nominations close 10th February, Draw will be available 13th February. Carts available contact John Williams in the Golf shop on

6566 1211. Tee times Kempsey Frederickton SW Rocks hit off between 7:30am and 8:30am, Port Macquarie, Kew, Wauchope hit off between 11:30am and 12:30pm. If you would like to nominate by return email, by all means do. (This is the first game in the travel incentive scheme)

I also was given an email from Mid North Coast Vets  to say, “We are fortunate enough to get four days for Vets at Bonville this year.  The first day is 17 February.  Our field is limited to 80 with a shot gun start at 9:30am.  The green fee is at the special rate of $60 with a cart included.  We sincerely invite you and your Vets to come along.

Contact John Plummer on 0423 087 323. I will email him for the other dates, they may suit better than this date, but it is not a bad deal.

Thursday 29th January, 9 Hole Competition Results

Because there were only 22 starters it was reduced to a Ball Comp

NTP: Russell Harris

Balls to 17 points

Ball winners:

20 points: Roy Stokes, Darryl Morrow
19 points: Ian Bain, Phil Elliott
