Wauchope Men's Vets weekly update 06.12

Wauchope Men’s Veteran Golfers

Next Tuesday 8th December is Hams or Hamper Day, if you have played over 60% of available games in 2015, you should already have or a proxy has your Ham Ticket, you will receive Half a Ham. The event on Tuesday is a Best 2 of 4 Stableford with an 8:00am shot gun Start. I have purposely made it a Best 2 of 4 Stableford event to enable faster play. YOU ARE ONLY GOING TO BE FASTER BY  PICKING  YOUR BALL UP IF YOU CANNOT BETTER THE OTHER SCORES IN YOUR TEAM. Lunch is scheduled for 12:30pm so we need a 12:30pm finish, that is a round of 4 hours 30 minutes which should be quite easy, keep your group moving.

Order for the day will be, all the action will be in the Auditorium downstairs, there is no reason to go upstairs, when you come in and submit your card, you will be given Beer Tickets for your group, lunch should be ready or close to ready, lunch will be before the Presentation, after presentation the Ham raffle will be drawn and then the distribution of Hams, I will call names from the start sheet and those people called out should go and collect their Ham. We have 140 Hams ($5000 worth) to distribute so it needs to be done in an orderly fashion. Thank you to all the Committee and non Committee members helping out on this special day, Thank you.

TIMESHEETS:- Dennis Hughes sent this message yesterday, I will not rewrite it just copy it to you.
“Names for 22nd Dec are already in and computer will open for Tablet and Internet at 6am on Tuesday for 22nd
Note that the computer will open on 15th December for 5th Jan 2016. (3 Weeks ahead) (No game on 29th Dec)
It will open on 22nd December for 12th January 2016 (3 weeks ahead)
This will also apply to the Thursday games
Opens 17th Dec for 7th Jan and opens 24th Dec for 14th Jan..Yes there is a game on 24th December..(Not in the book)”

He also asked me to mention “On another note there have been people in carts leaving the path to the left of 11th green (some of them Vets) and driving up past the sand trap and also across the front of the 11th green when leaving the 12th tee. They have bent the stakes aside and also I noticed today that one of the star pegs is actually recently broken. This practice is to cease immediately. To access 12th tee drive to the right of the dam and up through the trees to the tee then walk to 11th green. Return the same way.”

Out of concern, I wrote a letter to Caleb Rose, General Manager, and also to the Board regarding the meals served to the Vets on Tuesdays. I pointed out the lack of variety and sometimes the meals run out early. Caleb emailed me this message “Can you please draw to your member’s attention the fact that our new menu also offers a number of choices for under $10 with your member’s discount, as well as open toasted sandwiches for $6.30.  In part this menu is intended to replace the $7 meals which are at best a break even proposition for the club and not sustainable for the long term, particularly if we continue to offer multiple choices as this generates significant wastage and therefore further cost.”  The fact the new menu is intended to replace the Bain-Marie meals, makes sense. I suggested that maybe the meal price needs to be increased from $7 to $9 with the proviso the meals are value for money and there is variety, Caleb replied “The suggestion of raising the cost to $9 would improve the club’s margin on the meals and we will give this due consideration, however it would be preferable to promote the new menu choices along with only one or two “wet dish” specials each week.  I’d be very happy to talk through this with you and also to speak at your presentation about the changes if that would be useful?” I have included the lunch Menu below, when you apply your 10% discount to these meals, I feel you will be getting value for money. These meals will need to be ordered and they will be delivered to your table. I have also attached the full menu, if you a planning a more formal Lunch or Dinner.  I am happy with the reply, members now have a choice, if not fussed with the “wet dishes” they have the option to order other meals that are only marginally dearer, but should satisfy the appetite.

Wauchope Men's Vets weekly update 29.11

Wauchope Men’s Veteran Golfers

Next Tuesday 1st December is a Single Stableford event sponsored by our good supporter Hastings Fresh Meats, Lake Rd., Port Macquarie. Looking at the timesheet there are 9 spots vacant, the weather looks as though it will be alright, why don’t you get your name down.

Please Note::: Last week I stated the Shotgun start for Hams Day (8th Dec.) was 8:30am, I made a mistake it is 8:00am shotgun start. On a lighter note for the day, if you are unable to attend and are receiving a Ham please ensure you have a proxy, who will present your ticket and take your ham otherwise it might get raffled, (you know what PA is like). Also on Hams day we will present the prizes for the 2015 Eclectic and the 2015 Travellers

Peter Abell asked me to thank all the people who bought raffle tickets last week for their willingness to contribute to our club. He said he will not be selling them on Tuesday and it will be drawn on Hams Day 8th December.

Friday saw players heading south to Harrington and north to South West Rocks. I asked Geoff Hosking for a report on what happened at SWR Zone 12 Championship, he reported it was a good day and well organised by the SWR Vets. He said Mick Ashley had an 83 Bob Maggs had 88  and Geoff had a 88, the course played very tough. But for one player it must have been very easy he had 82 gross, off 23 for a nett 59. He also suggested we should promote it more next year and send more players up to SWR. Thanks Geoff for that report!!!

The players who headed south played Harrington Waters, there were 20 players, we were greeted with Tea/Coffee and Carrot Cake prior to a  8:30am shotgun start. Remembering this is the 2nd round of the Harri-Hope Shield, so there was a lot at stake. The course and particularly the fairways are in magnificent condition, the couch grass sitting the ball up nicely, if you were on the fairway and not in the water or OB. As we went passed the clubhouse we were given a sausage sandwich and then a BBQ lunch  of a rissole and sausage with plenty of fresh salad, all for $25, good value. The Shield scores at the start of day was Wauchope 376, Harrington 330, scored by the best 10 scores from each side. On Friday Wauchope scored 352 for a total of 728, Harrington scored 383 for a total of 713. The Shield headed north to Wauchope for 2015. Top scorers in our team were John Jokantas 40 points, Ross Bird 39 points, Allan Lynch 38 points, Tony Zanon 37 points, Rod Millican 35 points, Doug Connell 34 points, Norm Marchant 34 points, Graham Ferguson 33 points. It was a good day, thank you Harrington Waters Vets and the women who served the drinks and served lunch. Harrington will be visiting us on Tuesday February 23rd 2016.

Derek Bentley is shifting to Sydney very soon, Derek hasn’t played for some time but he comes out on Tuesdays and drives Ron Dixon around the course in Ron’s cart. A few of the boys have organised a farewell lunch for Derek on Wednesday 2nd December at Lake Cathie Tavern, if you are interested in attending see Norm Marchant or Keith Dickinson.

In Preparation for next year’s fixture book, I will be displaying all the Men’s Vets Telephone numbers, which will be included in a fixtures book. Would you check them, please. If they are correct tick them, if not correct, amend them, if you do not want your number in the book place a line through it. It will be available on Tuesday 1st and Hams Day.

Wauchope Men's Vets weekly update 15.11

Wauchope Men’s Veteran Golfers

Next Tuesday 17th November is a Single Stableford sponsored by the ANZ Bank. Sorry I misled you at the presentation last Tuesday saying Tuesday 17th is Bi-Monthly Medal, it is  Tuesday 24th November.

Looking at the booking sheet for Tuesday 17th Nov. there are 4 vacant spots on the front nine if you are interested in playing. Look forward to seeing you.

If you are ever looking for past results, they are all posted on the Wauchope Men’s Veterans Blogsite at    http://wauchopemensvets.blogspot.com.au/ , there are also some Weekly updates, but I must be vigilant and post all the updates. There has been over 12,000 hits on the Blogsite since I started in 2013.

Friday 13th November the bus trip to Nambucca Island Golf Club went ahead. Although numbers were a little disappointing, a good day was enjoyed by all.  The bus travellers had the luxury of a 28 seat bus for the price of a 22 seat bus. Thank you to Richard Pierce for driving, he did a great job getting everybody back by about 4:30pm. Thank you to all the Bus riders for being early at your designated pick-up points, it meant the bus arrived a little early at Nambucca. Now about the golf, 20 players contested the Single Stableford event, the Winner was John Jokantas with 37 points from Mike Sheldon 34 points, Graham Ferguson 31 points, other scores I was told about are Fred Ertl 30 points, Greg Stewart 30 points, Dennis Hughes 30 points. John Jokantas received a golf shirt donated by Steve of the Nambucca Pro Shop, the ball rundown went to 15 points. I don’t feel so bad, a couple of years ago I got a ball for 17 points, it can do that to you.

The Travellers Trophy must nearly have determined the winner with John Jokantas’s score on Friday, Iam not sure who is running second at the present moment. Fred Ertl is the only player who has played all 12 games in the travellers Trophy, well done Fred. With one more game to be played at Harrington on Friday 27th November, we will present the vouchers at Presentation on Tuesday 1st December.

As I mentioned there is still a game to be played for the Travellers which is Harrington on Friday 27th November, I need to finalise names by 20th November, so please place your name on the sheet.

The other game on that day is the Zone 12 Championships at SWR, that sheet is on the noticeboard and I will be submitting those names next week also.

Tickets for Hams will be distributed from next Tuesday, you need to present your ticket, so don’t lose it,  If you are unable to play on the 8th December you will need to name a proxy on the back of your ticket and sign it please. Hams will be ordered for the number of tickets distributed so you need to pick up or proxy or tell us you don’t want one.

It seems the Pro Shop has a small problem on Tuesdays with all the Vets getting $50 notes out from under the bed, Neil runs out of change. If you think of it, see if you can bring a$20 note to pay your Green fees, it would be appreciated.

Thursday  12th November 2015 Vets 9 Hole Stableford Results. There were 30 players
