Sunday 29.06.14, Weekly Update

Wauchope Veteran Golfers

There are quite a few things to talk about.

Firstly, next Tuesday’s 01.07.14  event is a Single Stableford sponsored by Fredo’s Meats. The first game of the new financial year (for those fiscally orientated), or to others, half the year has gone.
Looking at the booking sheet, there are eight spots available,  if you are looking for a game.

There is a slight change to an upcoming event, on Tuesday July 22nd, we host Wingham Vets for a return visit. They have 27 players listed to visit us. To accommodate that number, we need to have a shotgun start, so there will be an 8:30am shotgun start for that event.

Sponsors are a very important part of our organisation, I would like to think of them as partners, they help us, hoping we will help them, ie. do business with their business. Please when contemplating a purchase, all I would ask is you give our sponsors a thought, “Can I buy this item from them?”

Talking about sponsors, we are seeking new sponsors, some of our sponsors have  pulled out, after years of contributing and we thank them and appreciate the support they have given us. If you know of a business who may like to sponsor one or more events, please talk to us. From a retail business point of view, if they donated vouchers, this would bring new customers to their business and the voucher holder may spend a lot more than the voucher value. Talk to Graeme Heggarty, Peter Abell or myself if you know of a potential sponsor.

We need to talk about the moving of our Tuesday event to Kempsey on the 5th August, because Wauchope is not available to us on that day. Negotiations with Kempsey  club, Green Fees are to be the same as we usually pay at home $16,  a manual timesheet will be available from this Tuesday, it will have one tee hit-off times from 8:00am to 9:24am. Golf carts  are in short supply, so if you need one, you will need to take your own, which you will not have to pay to go on the course. I would appreciate if players who take carts, fill the seat beside them on this occasion. More info on the day as it gets closer.

We pride ourselves on having a presentation each week, where players stay back or some come back if they are in the winning circuit. We reward players for their attendance by having the Beer Draw, you have a chance of winning one of  eight six packs of beer.  But we would really like you to stay back for the presentation, not to listen to me,  but to uphold tradition and show your support  for the success of the winners of the day and maybe win a six pack of beer.

There are three sheets on the board for our visits  at the back end of July.  First is to Harrington for the Harri-Hope Shield on Friday 18th July, this is a popular event, at present there are 18-20 players listed.

Secondly, to Kempsey for Bill Medley Shield, on Friday 25th July there is a good response to this visit with about 20 players nominated. Thirdly, Monday 28th July to Tuncurry course, this again is a popular trip and there is about 20 players nominated.

Wauchope Men’s Vets

Tuesday 24th June  the competition is a Single Stableford, sponsored by  Muddles Farm Centre, Wauchope. There are only 3 spots available on the timesheets, get in quick if you want a game.

Not a real lot to report this week only to keep reminding members of the upcoming visits to our club and visits to other clubs. It is important that we support visitations, it keeps open, communication lines between our club and other clubs some outside our Vets Zone.

So what is coming up?

Friday 18th July, Visit to Harrington Waters. Sheet is on the Vet’s  Board

Tuesday 22nd July visit from Wingham Vets

Friday 25th July – Visit to Kempsey for the Bill Medley Shield , Shotgun start 9:00am, Check in at 8:30am, cost is $15.00, BBQ Lunch offered, not included in fees,  nominations close 11th July, Sheet will be available  Tuesday 24th June

Monday 28th July-Visit to Forster/Tuncurry, Tuncurry Course (the committee will have to discuss if this is a bus trip)

Tuesday 5th August, we are taking our competition to Kempsey Golf Club. Wauchope course is not available to us on that day because of the Ladies WGCNG Annual Tournament  over 3 days. We will be putting a Timesheet out as it gets closer.

You can see that the back end of July is very busy.

I have  brochures for Fossicker’s Way Week of Golf,  22nd to 26th September. Bingara, Barraba, Warialda
Also  Charlestown Veteran’s Cup, Thursday 25th September. Both brochures will be on the Vets Board on Tuesday a preview is on the blog

Weekly update, Sunday 15th June 2014

Wauchope Men's Veteran Golf Club

The trip to Wingham was successful despite the low numbers attending from our side. Only thirteen made the trip. We were accommodated for our cart needs and welcomed with tea and coffee. The Roast lunch was enjoyed by all players when we came in and was followed by the presentation. Our highest scorer was Alan Brooke with 33 points, Alan was rewarded with a 6 pack of beer for his efforts, during the raffle draw other players were rewarded with 6 packs and balls. (Photos are on the blog)

It is suggested by Wingham Vets, that in future,  we play for a trophy called the Neil Grant Memorial Shield, because of the determination of Neil in organising the Wingham trips, and as memorial to him that he started organising this trip when he fell ill.  The format of the trophy will be a little different, a number of Wingham players and Wauchope players will be drawn raffle style and the Stableford points added on each side to determine the winners.

Wauchope Players relaxing at the presentation

Tuesday’s event is Single Par event sponsored by Clarke Joyce, Wauchope Pro Shop. There are 7 spots available on the booking sheet, so if you  are looking for a game book in early.

The next visiting event on the calendar is a visit by Wauchope Men’s Vets to Harrington Waters to contest the Harri-Hope Shield. It is on Friday 18th July  and is a Single Stableford. I am waiting on more info from Harrington, but will put a preliminary sheet out on Tuesday 17/6.

Wingham vets will visit Wauchope on Tuesday 22nd July, they indicate it is always one of their more popular visiting events.

On Friday 25th July the Bill Medley Shield event is on at Kempsey, we need to field a strong team as we are up there, and need to stay there.

Sunday update 1st June 14

Wauchope Mens Veteran Golfers

Just a quick update.

The visit to Taree last Friday 30/5 was a success. It is a very interesting course and the scores indicated that. 25 players made the trip, 20 by bus and 5 by car. And it didn’t rain.

The  winner, with 37 points was Barry Watson, followed by Glenn Regan with 34 points and Ross Bird with 32 points was 3rd. Barry received a voucher for the win, 4 balls for 2nd place and 2 balls for 3rd place, and the ball rundown went to 25th place. We are invited to visit Club Taree as a Group or individually. The group agreed it would be good to return next year, play as we did, our own competition,  or play with Taree Vets. The committee will discuss the options. Thank you to Alan Brooke for organising and driving the bus, we really appreciate it. (Photos on blogsite)

Our next trip away is to Wingham on Wednesday 11th June, at this stage we still only have 15 players, if that number stays there would need to be a decision on taking the bus or postponing the visit. All the info is on last weeks email. We have until Tuesday to bolster the numbers.

Tuesday is 8:00am Shotgun Start, with free BBQ after. The BBQ is in lieu of the Mid Year Dinner, this way more members benefit. The competition is Single Stableford. There are two vacancies at this time so if you haven’t booked,  get in now. If you are thinking about cancelling, please do as early as possible, to allow another member to take your place.

On Tuesday morning 3/6 the computer is set to open at 6:00am for bookings for 17/06, this will allow those players plenty of time to get to the course for the 8:00am  start. Please be early to book in, to avoid the last minute rush.

Other important dates coming up, Friday 18th July, Visit to Harrington Waters for the Harri-Hope Shield
Friday 25th July, Bill Medley Shield at Kempsey
Tuesday 5th August, we are taking our competition to Kempsey Golf Club. Wauchope course is not available to us on that day because of the Ladies WGCNG Annual Tournament  over 3 days. We will be putting a Timesheet out as it gets closer.

Sorry, I didn’t play on Saturday, so I have not got the Thursday 9 Hole Results.

Regards
Ross Bird
